Updated June 30, 2011 11:32:00 The Industrial Court has cleared Torrens Transit of wrongdoing over a runaway bus that pinned its driver in a freak accident.
The court heard the driver left his bus at Kilburn in Adelaide's northern suburbs in 2005 without applying the handbrake.
He closed the doors via the driver's window.
The bus rolled forward into a stationary truck, pinning and injuring the driver.
SafeWork SA prosecuted the company for breaching workplace safety regulations, alleging it did not have adequate safeguards to prevent such an accident.
It argued a handbrake alarm system should have been installed.
The court ruled Torrens Transit was not at fault over the accident and had given its drivers adequate training.
